Viewing a job as an honorable job in our society adds more meaning and peace to our lives. Also, seeing the honor in what a person does now will create an ideal foundation for others to follow.
When I was sixteen, my first job was that of a hostess at a restaurant One day, way back then, I happened to meet the charming woman in her 60s and her grand daughter, who appeared to be 2 years of age so. She mentioned she had heard I was working part time from my mother’s friend at the post office. She inquired of my position.
With shame and humiliation, I mumbled and stuttered, “Oh, I am just a little hostess.” That wise charming woman looked stunned and said to me, “Jenny, any job is an honorable job. Don’t you ever forget it!!!!?”
And from that point on, I tried to never look at a job as something shameful. Doing something is better than doing nothing or being complacent. Of course, seeing the honor in our job on a daily basis is not always an easy task nor does it feel rewarding at times. Remember the Higher Power and that there is a reason for everything. You are not an accident!
