START-UP MAMAS

In May, I received a phone call from Josh Tabin, who was researching “the next of the next” of technology businesses in Houston.  I was introduced to Twitter (what a name), Kirtsy (formerly Sk-rt), and OpMoms.

A week later, Monica Perin from the Houston Business Jorunal wrote a thoughtful and informative article about Citinannies.net.  Soon after, and even though I have realized that modern women in society are no longer just “baby-holders”, I was  very impressed with what I was finding on the internet about mom business owners.  It like of the sudden, there, there sprung a showcase of internet mom-preneurs.

In the last two weeks or so, I have been doing some serious networking with my peers, and have connected a lot of the mom-prenuers.  I am constantly amazed by the creativity out there in cyberspace.   I had started a little Meetup group called “Startup Mamas”, as the idea was to commend mom-owned business owners to collaborate, network, mentor and exchange ideas on how to help each other grow pro bono.

There seems to be a lot of ways businesses have chosen to take advantage of our community with advertising costs, expensive trade shows and conventions, and other silly marketing schemes.  The average entrepreneurs, especially one who was and is a mother, the resource aren’t as plentiful.    This is very sad, people.    Many thousands of people their dollars and efforts toward charities and other profitable ventures but when it comes to consulting and mentoring, no one really does it pro bono.   Why?

I have been so busy with citinannies.net in the recent months, that I haven’t had any time to work on this concept.   If you’re reading this, and want to participate in this new venture, please drop me a line.    If not, then be lazy and think about how you can’t spend 15 minutes in a day helping someone else achieve their dreams.
